The IPC/WHMA-A-620, Theoretical Training in the Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, is the first industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation and it is a joint project of IPC (Institute of Printed Circuits) and WHMA (Wire Harness Manufacturers Association).

This standard describes test and acceptability criteria for producing crimped, mechanically secured, or soldered interconnections and the associated lacing/restraining criteria associated with cable and harness assemblies. An industry developed and approved program that includes training, certification and instructional materials based on the IPC-A-620 is available to your company. Three classes of products are defined and include criteria for Target, Acceptable, Process Indicator and Defect conditions, to support the collection of visual quality acceptability for all three classes.

The certification will demonstrate your commitment to continuous improvement of product quality and reliability of your products to customers and will facilitate to ISO or other quality assurance initiatives. The CIS (Certified IPC Specialist) programs provide individuals with a portable credential (certificate) that represents their understanding of IPC/WHMA-A620, and you will receive immediate recognition, legitimacy, and value throughout the electronics industry. After successfully completing the program, you will have the Title as CIS (Certified IPC Specialist)

IPC/WHMA-A-620 CIS (Certified IPC Specialist) training is a 4 DAY course that consists of the following 8 Modules:

  • Module 1 : Policies and Procedures
  • Module 2 : Crimp Termination and Insulation Displacement Connection
  • Module 3 : Soldered Terminations
  • Module 4 : Connectorization, Over-Molding, and Potting
  • Module 5 : Splices
  • Module 6 :  Marking/Labeling, Securing, Harness/Cable Electrical Shielding, Cable/Wire Harness Protective Coverings, and Finished Assembly Installation.
  • Module 7 : Coaxial and Biaxial Cable Assemblies
  • Module 8 : Solderless Wrap

With the cable and harness industry continuing to grow, OEMs are not just looking for basic material/component suppliers, they are searching for Solution Providers. And most importantly, Certification on Industry Standards – such as the “IPC/WHMA-A-620”. The certification demonstrates commitment to quality workmanship for cable and wire harnesses. The IPC/WHMA-A-620 is a universally recognized workmanship standard within the wire harness industry , that has created an understanding between the manufacturers and OEM’s
